Lolita Lebron, a long time Nationalist, now in her eighties, led an attack on the U.S. House of Representat- ives along with three other Nationalists on March 1, 1954 on behalf of Puerto Rican independence. This attack was done in order to bring world attention to the situation of colonialism between the United States and Puerto Rico. She opened fire wounding a congressman and served 20 years in federal prison. Lolita migrated to NYC in the early 50s and worked in the garment industry.
It was in NYC where she decided to join the Nationalist Party and lead an attack on congress.
Still active today, Lolita was also arrested in the late 90s for acts of civil disobedience in the Vieques Naval Range and occasionally testifies at the annual de-colonialization hearings on Puerto Rico in the United Nations.
Although she is active in the independence movement, Lolita has adopted a pacifist philosophy and is a strong Christian follower.
